What is the equivalent today to the acoustic guitar played by Robert Johnson?
Dan H asked:
Hi,
Hi,
I’m looking to buy a guitar equivalent to the acoustic model played by blues guitarist Robert Johnson. If you could provide me with model(s) available for purchase today, I would be very grateful.

incredibly expensive ‘replica’ of the guitar you want…I’m sure Gibson has cheaper models that are similar to this
It aint the geetar man, yoose gotta go down and sell your soul to get that sound.
Just go down to the crossroad just before midnight and start playing a tune. A black man will come up and ask to play your guitar, he will tune it and play a song, then give it back to you…..
“Strat” is teasin’ ya a little,
but in a way his answer is correct
the sound is “In Your Hands”
not the guitar !
You could hand Johnson a cheap guitar, and he will still sound like Robert Johnson.
Johnson dedicated his life to his music,
he didn’t just talk about it, he lived it.
A LOT of practice n listening to good music,
you sorta “absorb” sound,
the feel of the music,
And a LOT of practice !!!!
The last, but most important ingredient, is talent.
I could hand you Johnson’s person guitar,
and you STILL probably couldn’t sound anything like him.
That’s not a slam, just the truth.
Buy the best guitar you can afford,
Make sure you get one that has a good neck,
low string action,
no string buzzing….
and get to it. !
Check out what Keb Mo is playing these days.
If you plan on getting a bluesy sound from an acoustic a resonator might be an option? Perfect for slide guitar.
